London: The countries of those killed in a plane hit by an Iranian missile attack have demanded that it take ‘full responsibility’ of the incident and give compensation to the victims’ families. Foreign Ministers of Canada, Britain, Afghanistan, Sweden and Ukraine issued a statement in this regard after the meeting at the Canada High Commission located at Trafalgar Square. Significantly, Ukraine International Airline’s plane crashed shortly after taking flight from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport on January 8,
The aircraft was dropped in a ballistic missile attack targeting US military bases in Iraq. The dead included 57 from Canada, 11 from Ukraine, 17 from Sweden, Afghanistan and four from Britain. Iranians are also among those killed. Canadian Foreign Minister François Philippe Champagne said in London that we are here for accountability, transparency and justice for the victims.
He said that Iran has taken responsibility for the accident, but only the investigation will reveal what are the reasons for the plane crash and who is responsible. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called for a comprehensive, transparent and independent international investigation into the plane crash.
